2027 Wayfarer: Chapter 10

Lippert Hydraulic Leveling System:

The Lippert Leveling System is designed to provide a stable and hassle-free setup for your motorhome. Proper leveling ensures maximum comfort, protects the vehicle’s structural integrity, and helps appliances function optimally. This chapter covers how to operate the Leveling Control Panel, including automatic and manual adjustment options.

Operating the Lippert Leveling System:

Locating the Control Panel

The Leveling Control Panel is positioned on the left when entering the motorhome door. This panel allows users to automatically or manually adjust the leveling jacks as needed.

Automatic Leveling:

1.    Ensure the E-Brake is pulled, and the ignition is on before beginning the process.

2.    Locate the Autolevel button on the control panel (Figure 10-1).

3.    Press the Autolevel button to initiate the automatic leveling sequence.

4.    The system will adjust the jacks to level your motorhome based on the surface conditions.

Manual Leveling:

If the automatic leveling is not to your preference, you can manually adjust each jack:

1.    Locate the menu button with three lines in the upper right corner of the control panel (Figure 10-2).

2.    Press this button to access the manual adjustment screen (Figure 10-3).

3.    On the screen, you will see individual control options (Figure 10-4): 

        o    Extend Front

        o    Extend Rear

        o    Extend Drive Side

        o    Extend Pass Side

4.    Use the controls to make precise adjustments to each jack as needed.

Retracting The Leveling System:

1.    Ensure the Ignition is On

    o    Before attempting to retract the leveling system, turn on the vehicle’s ignition. This step ensures power is supplied to the system.

2.    Release the Emergency Brake

    o    Disengage the emergency brake. Some leveling systems are designed not to retract unless the brake is released.

3.    Wait for the Jacks to Retract

    o    Once the brake is released, the leveling jacks should automatically begin retracting. 

Monitor the process to ensure they fully retract.

4.    Inspect the Jacks Before Driving

    o    Before moving the vehicle, do a visual check to confirm all jacks are completely retracted. Leaving them partially extended can cause damage or pose a safety hazard.

Final Considerations

    •    Always engage the E-Brake and ignition before leveling.
    •    Periodically inspect the leveling system to ensure proper operation.
    •    If issues arise, refer to your Tiffin Knowledge Base Owner’s Hub or consult Lippert customer support for assistance.

Following these steps will help ensure your motorhome remains stable for a comfortable and safe experience.

Warning:

Do not use the leveling system to support vehicle while under coach or changing tires. The hydraulic leveling system is designed as a “leveling” system only. Tire repairs should be performed by a trained professional. Attempts to change tires while supporting the vehicle with the hydraulic system could result in damage to the motorhome and/or cause serious injury or even death. Keep people clear of coach while leveling system is in use.

Never lift the wheels off the ground to level the coach. Doing so may create an unstable condition.

Never expose hands or other parts of the body near hydraulics leaks. High pressure oil leaks may cut and penetrate the skin causing serious injury.

Park the coach on a reasonably solid surface or the jacks may sink into the ground. On soft surfaces, use load distribution pads under each jack.

Check that potential jack contact locations are clear of obstructions or depressions before operation.

Preventative Maintenance Procedures:

WARNING:  Your coach should be supported at both front and rear axles with jack stands before working underneath, failure to do so may result in personal injury or death.

1.    Check the fluid level every month. Fill the reservoir with the jacks in the fully retracted position. On 1998 - PRESENT model year coaches, the fluid should be within 1/4 inch of the fill port lip and checked only with all jacks retracted. On pre-1998 model year coaches the fluid level should be approximately 1/8 inch on the dipstick and checked only with all jacks retracted.

2.    Change fluid every 24 months.

3.    Inspect and clean all hydraulic pump electrical connections every 12 months.

4.    Remove dirt and road debris from jacks as needed.

5.    If jacks are down for extended periods, it is recommended to spray exposed chrome rods with a silicone lubricant every seven days for protection. If your coach is in a salty environment (within 60 miles of coastal areas), it is recommended to spray the rods every 2 to 3 days.

6.    Jacks equipped with grease fittings at the bottom of the cylinder should be greased with lightweight lithium grease using a hand pump style grease gun only. 2 or 3 pumps should be sufficient for 20-30 uses.

Selecting A Site:

When the coach is parked on an excessive slope the leveling requirements may exceed the jack lift stroke capability. If the coach is parked on an excessive slope, the coach should be moved to a more level surface before the leveling system is deployed.
