Towing Hitch:
The Tiffin GT Series is thoughtfully designed with a sturdy towing hitch (Figure 7-1) discreetly concealed at the rear of the van, preserving its sleek and sophisticated aesthetic. This hidden integration ensures that the vehicle maintains its seamless exterior while offering exceptional functionality. Engineered for reliability and strength, the hitch supports a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, allowing for effortless transportation of trailers, small vehicles, or additional gear. Whether embarking on extended road trips or indulging in luxury travel experiences, this refined feature enhances convenience without compromising the elegance of the Tiffin GT.
To access the towing hitch on the Tiffin GT Series, locate the two thumbscrews positioned underneath the access panel (Figure 7-2), at the rear of the vehicle. Unscrew completely, ensuring they are fully disengaged. Once both screws are released, raise the access panel, which will smoothly lift to reveal the concealed towing hitch.
The towing hitch features a standard 7 pin wiring connector. If desired, a trailer brake actuator can be added.
The Van is capable of towing light loads, and instructions are in the chassis manufacturer’s literature in the Owner’s Information Package provided with the Van.
The total weight of the Van and any vehicle towed by that Van must not exceed the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR).
NOTICE. If drop hitch or receiver extension is added to coach, it reduces ton capacity by half.
The tongue weight must not exceed 10 percent of the towing capacity. Information related to the Van weight and GCWR can be found on a sticker inside the Van closet. Any vehicles to be towed by the Van must have adequate active braking.
Tiffin Motorhomes does not recommend using any type of hydraulic towing lift that attaches to the rear of the Van designed to carry motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc.
Mirrors:
The Tiffin GT Series is equipped with the standard rear-view mirror, as well as driver-side and passenger-side mirrors, all of which come as part of the Mercedes chassis. These mirrors are designed to provide optimal visibility, enhancing safety and ease of navigation on the road. The rear-view mirror offers a clear view of the area behind the vehicle, aiding in parking and reversing maneuvers, while the side mirrors help drivers maintain awareness of surrounding traffic and blind spots. Built with high-quality materials and engineered for stability, these mirrors ensure a reliable and seamless driving experience, whether traveling on highways or maneuvering through tighter spaces.
Running Boards:
The Tiffin GT Series is thoughtfully equipped with driver and passenger running boards (Figure 7-3), providing a convenient and stable stepping surface for effortless entry and exit. Designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, these running boards enhance accessibility while complementing the vehicle’s sleek and refined appearance. Whether entering from the driver’s or passenger side, the integrated boards offer added support and ease, ensuring a smooth and comfortable transition into the vehicle.
Sidestep:
The Tiffin GT Series is equipped with a smartly designed electric sidestep (Figure 7-4) that extends automatically when the side door is opened, offering convenient and secure entry into the vehicle. Once the door is closed, the step smoothly retracts, maintaining a streamlined exterior and protecting the mechanism from unnecessary wear. For added flexibility, the step can also be locked in the extended position by pressing the “Step” switch (Figure 7-5) to the OFF setting—allowing uninterrupted access even when the door is in use. Before driving, always return the switch to the ON position to ensure the step retracts properly and to avoid potential damage or road hazards. This user-friendly feature enhances both the functionality and style of the GT Series while supporting a safe and seamless travel experience.
